SEWER UTILITY
Operations:
The system is currently operating properly with an average daily flow of 21,455 gallons over the past 12-months. However, new concerns have developed with respect to the treatment plant operations. The “black tank” has developed leaks, some of which cannot be repaired. Investigations are underway regarding alternative solutions such as installing a liner that will prevent leaks until the plant is retired or replaced. For now, the plant is operating within regulatory requirements. The collection system continues to be something of a problem but as each problem surfaces, proper actions are promptly taken to ensure continued operation of a safe system.
Sewer Improvement Project:
Progress continues with the Sadieville Sewer Improvement Project. This $5.5 million, 3-phase project will replace all obsolete sewer collection lines, upgrade existing pumping stations, retire the aging Wastewater Treatment Plant and expand sewer service to the KY-32/I-75 interchange over the next 18 months.
The current project schedule is as follows:
§ Preliminary Engineering was completed in October, 2005.
§ The Engineering Design for Phases I and II are complete, and the final steps are being taken to take this part of the project to the bidding phase.
§ Advertisement and bidding for project construction activities will begin in November, 2007 and be completed 30-60 days thereafter.
§ Construction is projected to begin in the spring of 2008, and will continue for about 12 months.
§ Project closeout is scheduled for early 2009.
Funding for two phases of the project has been secured and additional avenues have been opened that, if successful, should provide sufficient funding to complete the project resulting in improved sewer service to all citizens of Sadieville and open the I-75/KY 32 interchange to commercial and residential development.
STORM WATER MANAGEMENT
For the first time, Storm Water Management activities will be included as a line item in the City budget. The FY 2007-2008 budget contains limited funding for selected small projects designed to improve the management of storm water runoff throughout the city. Projects include: minor improvements to Main Street to help direct and control runoff; improvements along KY 32 to help direct water away from homes and other buildings; installation and repair of storm drains along Vine Street, and new culverts and road design at the Vine Street, KY 32 intersection.
BUILDINGS AND MAINTENANCE
The Depot Basement renovations have been completed. The basement is available for public use for a minimal fee for upkeep and a deposit. The basement has a large community room with a kitchnette and bathroom. There is a private office which houses most of the city’s permanent documents.
